A sequel to the smash hit engine-builder Project L, Square One introduces a new dimension to its mechanics — time.
Square One is a fast-paced, engine-building strategy game for 1-4 players. Just like its predecessor, its easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master mechanics offer high replayability for the whole family. Complete sequences with beautifully designed tactile pieces and unleash satisfying combos in a game that's more than just a sequel — it's a whole new challenge.
Latest Updates from Our Project:
Delays In Assembly & Delivery Crash Test 💥
30 days ago
– Thu, Nov 21, 2024 at 09:31:59 AM
Hi everyone!
We’re back with another quick update, bringing you all the latest news about Square One’s production!
Today, we’ll dive into:
The delays on the assembly line 🚧
The extra layer of protection we prepared for the Square One’s packaging 🥽
The crash test of the said packaging 💥
Let's get into it
Quality takes time
As a studio, we are hellbent on keeping the quality of our games at 100. That means tighter quality control, slower but more precise production processes, and extra checks at every step. Hence, the delay.
Here’s how Panda GM described it:
“Typically, we press 50 sheets (of tiles) for 20 seconds in the machine. For Project L/Square One, we reduced it to 15 sheets and increased the pressing time to 60 seconds. Each sheet is carefully hand-checked before and after pressing. Compared to other projects, it’s a more time-consuming process.”
That being said, we’re still feeling optimistic about fulfilling the games towards the end of the promised buffer.
Your Delivery Guy Can’t Do Worse Than This
During deliveries, an unspecified delivery service—starting with an A—tends to be a little inconsiderate. So, we put together pre-packed shipping cartons that will protect your game from the worst of the worst.
Surely they can't do worse than this
Thank You for Your Patience!
We know that waiting sucks, but we’re confident it’ll be worth it. Your support means the world to us, and we can’t wait for you to experience Square One. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out with any questions or comments.
Cheers,
~Boardcubator team
Mass Production Copies Have Arrived + Shipping Updates & Address Changes
about 2 months ago
– Fri, Oct 25, 2024 at 08:27:25 AM
Hey everyone!
We’re back with another quick update, bringing you all the latest news about Square One’s production!
We’ll look at:
Dates for the shipping charges
Your last chance for address changes
Mass Production Copies
Shipping Charges 🚢
The shipping charges are set for October 30th at 3PM CET. You don’t need to do anything on your part—except for the Asia-Pacific region, which has more information below. Shipping costs remain exactly as estimated during the campaign, so no surprises there!
❗Important Asia-Pacific Information ❗
Backers from Australia, India, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Korea, and the Philippines should’ve received an email from us ([email protected]) asking them to choose their shipping option. As promised in the campaign, the options are to choose more expensive but customs-friendly shipping or standard shipping. It is very important for you to decide which shipping method you prefer so we can proceed with the delivery planning.
If you are from one of these countries and you didn't receive an email from us let us know at [email protected].
Last Chance For Address Changes 📤
Address changes will be locked on November 1st. If you need to change the shipping address in your pledge, please do so ASAP so we can accurately distribute the shipments.
The first batch of Mass Production Copies (MPCs) has arrived! This means we’re getting closer to the finish line, and everything seems to be in a pristine condition so far.
The sequence MPCs were delayed due to issues with the first print, so we’re still eagerly awaiting those.
Pieces: Our sweet candy-like pieces arrived, and we’re very happy with the results—PandaGM knocked it out of the park!
In a previous update, we mentioned a few quality-of-life improvements to the game components. In person, they work even better than we imagined. The game box has been adjusted to comfortably fit the core game, AP, and Joker Expansion.
Above, you can also see the score tokens that were redesigned into squares to save some space, and the player aids now match the square design for a more cohesive look.
We also held the final rulebooks for the first time! While they look great, we did notice some minor color issues—but that’s exactly what MPCs are for—catching these little details so you get the best product possible.
See you soon! 🫡
And that’s a wrap! We expect to get the sequence MPCs in the near future, and after they go through the approval process on our side, we will be ready to move on to the final stages of production!
Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, keep playing!

Square One News + New Game! ⚙️🚢

– Thu, Sep 12, 2024 at 11:23:15 AM
Hi there!
We hope you enjoyed the summer as much as we did! Today’s update will be a short one; we just wanted to get in touch with you and let you know where Square One stands.
Manufacturing ⚙️
Manufacturing is well on the way! We’re nervously expecting the arrival of MPCs (master production copies). These are the first ever fully finished games sent to us for inspection and potential ironing out of any issues that may occur. We’ll share photos and BTS information once they get here! Which should be by the end of September (super exciting!)
Check out these sweet behind-the-scenes photos of our little squares turning from unpolished pieces into the tasty cubes they should be! 🟨
Shipping costs and charges 🚢
With the arrival of MPCs, we can also narrow down the date for charging the shipping! You can expect the shipping to be charged in early October. Based on the current estimates, the shipping prices will stay the same as promised in the campaign. However, this can always change. In our next update, we will let you know the exact shipping costs and the date your cards will be charged.
Our Little Squares Are Getting Made!

Hi everyone!
It’s been a while since the last update, but we’re finally here today to show you a bit of what’s been brewing behind the scenes.
Here’s what you can expect below:
How’s manufacturing going!
What we changed about the Square One since the campaign
We have a rulebook
Heightened quality control
Manufacturing
We’re happy to announce that manufacturing has officially begun. As of this week, all the important data has been sent to our manufacturing partner, PandaGM, and they are diving deep into production.
A couple of hiccups occured along the way, which caused some minor delays, but we’re happy to say that we’re on track to keep deliveries on time!
Game Upgrades
Every game needs some tweaking after the campaign. In the SQ1 case, most of these are minor quality-of-life changes that improve the game's handling.
We slightly heightened the SQ1 box to perfectly fit the Ambassador Pack and the Joker Expansion. As the previous versions of the box proved themselves to be a bit too shallow. We’ve also altered the trays inside to make the whole manipulation within the box a bit easier.
One big change came to the combo tokens. The original tiles were supposed to be the size of Finesse tiles from Project L. But after some consideration we came to the conclusion that they don’t need to be this big as they only communicate the point value.
So we reshaped them into little square tokens. This change lightens the box a little bit and also saves some real estate on your table while playing!
Rulebook
Thanks to Mr. Jason Kingsley and some hours buried in the black pages, we can officially say the rulebook is done! It will come dressed in the same beautiful materials you know and love from Project L.
And if you feel like there’s something wrong with it, feel free to yell at us in the comments!
Quality Control
Some of you—who’ve been a part of our Project L: Phoenix campaign—may have noticed that we’ve been having some trouble with the black cardboard used as the core of the puzzles.
The cardboard in some of the print batches came in lower quality than usual, which resulted in some puzzles splitting apart. The issue unfortunately showed up a couple of days after unpacking the game, which meant it passed the thorough quality check from PandaGM.
To ensure that this does not happen again, any future print of both Project L and Square One will undergo a prolonged quality control check. This is one of the things causing minor delays. However we’re staying on top of the situation and working restlessly to follow the promised timeline.
Thank you, everyone, for being on this journey with us, and until next time, take care!

June 10 — The pledge manager will close, and changing your pledge will not be possible anymore. However, you can still change your delivery address.
September — The pledge manager will lock the addresses, and backers can no longer change their delivery details. Around this time you will be charged for shipping fees.
What should I do if I don’t receive an invite?
Make sure you are checking the correct email address that you have associated with Kickstarter. If you signed up for Kickstarter via Apple ID, you will receive the invite to your Apple ID email - if you want this corrected send us an email — [email protected]Then check your spam folders.
