Project L: Square One

Created by Boardcubator

A sequel to the smash hit engine-builder Project L, Square One introduces a new dimension to its mechanics — time. Square One is a fast-paced, engine-building strategy game for 1-4 players. Just like its predecessor, its easy-to-learn yet hard-to-master mechanics offer high replayability for the whole family. Complete sequences with beautifully designed tactile pieces and unleash satisfying combos in a game that's more than just a sequel — it's a whole new challenge.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Square One News + New Game! ⚙️🚢
about 1 month ago – Thu, Sep 12, 2024 at 11:23:15 AM

Hi there!

We hope you enjoyed the summer as much as we did! Today’s update will be a short one; we just wanted to get in touch with you and let you know where Square One stands.

Manufacturing ⚙️

Manufacturing is well on the way! We’re nervously expecting the arrival of MPCs (master production copies). These are the first ever fully finished games sent to us for inspection and potential ironing out of any issues that may occur. We’ll share photos and BTS information once they get here! Which should be by the end of September (super exciting!)

Check out these sweet behind-the-scenes photos of our little squares turning from unpolished pieces into the tasty cubes they should be! 🟨

Shipping costs and charges 🚢

With the arrival of MPCs, we can also narrow down the date for charging the shipping! You can expect the shipping to be charged in early October. Based on the current estimates, the shipping prices will stay the same as promised in the campaign. However, this can always change. In our next update, we will let you know the exact shipping costs and the date your cards will be charged.

New Game 🤡

In the meantime, I hope you don’t mind us plugging our new game here. It’s a nonverbal social deduction party card game, and its pre-launch page is live here, so go check it out!

Take care and keep playing!

Our Little Squares Are Getting Made!
3 months ago – Thu, Jul 25, 2024 at 05:38:30 AM

Hi everyone!

It’s been a while since the last update, but we’re finally here today to show you a bit of what’s been brewing behind the scenes.

Here’s what you can expect below:

  • How’s manufacturing going!
  • What we changed about the Square One since the campaign
  • We have a rulebook
  • Heightened quality control

Manufacturing

We’re happy to announce that manufacturing has officially begun. As of this week, all the important data has been sent to our manufacturing partner, PandaGM, and they are diving deep into production.

A couple of hiccups occured along the way, which caused some minor delays, but we’re happy to say that we’re on track to keep deliveries on time!

Game Upgrades

Every game needs some tweaking after the campaign. In the SQ1 case, most of these are minor quality-of-life changes that improve the game's handling.

We slightly heightened the SQ1 box to perfectly fit the Ambassador Pack and the Joker Expansion. As the previous versions of the box proved themselves to be a bit too shallow. We’ve also altered the trays inside to make the whole manipulation within the box a bit easier.

One big change came to the combo tokens. The original tiles were supposed to be the size of Finesse tiles from Project L. But after some consideration we came to the conclusion that they don’t need to be this big as they only communicate the point value.

So we reshaped them into little square tokens. This change lightens the box a little bit and also saves some real estate on your table while playing!

Rulebook

Thanks to Mr. Jason Kingsley and some hours buried in the black pages, we can officially say the rulebook is done! It will come dressed in the same beautiful materials you know and love from Project L.

If you would like to take a peek, it’s right here -> our brand-new rulebook!

And if you feel like there’s something wrong with it, feel free to yell at us in the comments!

Quality Control

Some of you—who’ve been a part of our Project L: Phoenix campaign—may have noticed that we’ve been having some trouble with the black cardboard used as the core of the puzzles.

The cardboard in some of the print batches came in lower quality than usual, which resulted in some puzzles splitting apart. The issue unfortunately showed up a couple of days after unpacking the game, which meant it passed the thorough quality check from PandaGM.

To ensure that this does not happen again, any future print of both Project L and Square One will undergo a prolonged quality control check. This is one of the things causing minor delays. However we’re staying on top of the situation and working restlessly to follow the promised timeline.

Thank you, everyone, for being on this journey with us, and until next time, take care!

Important Update: Pledge Manager Is Now Open! 📬
5 months ago – Tue, May 21, 2024 at 03:21:43 AM

Hi everyone!

We’re getting in touch today to pass on some useful information regarding the pledge manager (BackerKit)!

  •  The pledge manager opens today
  •  How Pledge Manager works
  •  Pledge manager timeline

Pledge manager is Open!

The pledge manager is now open! What does that mean? It means you will soon get your invitation link from BackerKit into the Pledge Manager. The invitation links should start coming out together with this update.

It can take some time to deliver them all, so be patient :)

You'll receive an email from BackerKit, where all you need to do is click this button ⬇️ the rest is pretty straight forward, but we'll show you how it works below.

How Does BackerKit Work?

It's simple! Any pledge you backed on Kickstarter will already be pre-filled in the pledge manager.

For Ambassadors:  Your ambassador pack will automatically be included in the cart. You do not have to add it in as an add-on!

When you open the survey, you’ll be greeted with the image below. All you need to do is fill in what region you are from and then choose how to proceed:

  • If you have pledged exactly what you wanted you can just select your region and click the green button.
  • If you wish to upgrade your pledge or change from 1€, click the “switch pledge level” text under the green button.

After that you:

  • answer a few necessary questions ❓
  • can add extra copies to your cart 🛒
  • fill in the shipping details 🚢
  • finish your order! ✅

Pledge manager timeline

  • May 21 - June 9 — You will need to fill in your delivery address and payment details. You can make as many changes to your pledge as you want.
  • June 10 — The pledge manager will close, and changing your pledge will not be possible anymore. However, you can still change your delivery address.
  • September  —  The pledge manager will lock the addresses, and backers can no longer change their delivery details. Around this time you will be charged for shipping fees.

What should I do if I don’t receive an invite?

Make sure you are checking the correct email address that you have associated with Kickstarter. If you signed up for Kickstarter via Apple ID, you will receive the invite to your Apple ID email - if you want this corrected send us an email — [email protected] Then check your spam folders. And lastly, if your invitation doesn't arrive by the end of today email us at [email protected].

That should be all for now. Feel free to ask any questions you might have about the pledge manager in the comments

Take care,

Important: Next Steps and Pledge Manager
5 months ago – Thu, May 02, 2024 at 11:25:10 AM

Dear backers! The campaign is over and many of you might ask “What now?” We are here to provide clarity on the matter.

This is an important update so please read carefully!

What should backers do now?

Nothing! We'll take care of everything. You don’t need to do anything until you receive an email with your personal invitation link, to the pledge manager, from BackerKit (our PM provider). You’ll get the link in two weeks or earlier, once Kickstarter has processed all pledges.

Please do not enter the pledge manager directly without your personal link. If you do, your pledge from Kickstarter won't be associated with the order you make in the pledge manager, and you will have to pay for your pledge again.

About the pledge manager

For those who are not familiar with a "pledge manager," it is a tool used by crowdfunding campaign creators to manage and fulfill rewards for backers. It collects information from backers, tracks rewards, and allows for upgrading or adding copies to your pledges. We use BackerKit as the pledge manager for this project.

Here's what you need to know about the upcoming pledge manager:

1. In two weeks or earlier, every backer will receive a dedicated personal invitation link to enter the pledge manager, where you can add additional copies and/or upgrade your pledge.

2. You'll have a few weeks to finish your pledge. We will let you know the actual deadline and how to do that in the next update.

3. You will be able to change your shipping address until the production is completed.

4. The pledge manager will charge the shipping costs when the production is finished and the games are ready to load on ships.

That's all for now. We will provide more detailed information about the remaining next steps in future updates.

Once again, thank you for your incredible support. Take care!

Aaand That’s a Wrap! 🥂
5 months ago – Thu, May 02, 2024 at 10:40:17 AM

Hi everyone!

Every story has an ending; ours is a happy one! With 200% of the funding goal reached, Square One’s campaign ends on a high note. Our charming little yellow Square has big shoes to fill, but we are confident that once you dive into the game, you’ll cherish it as much as we do.

There are no words that can express the amount of gratitude we feel. Thank you for enabling us to continue doing what we love. You are the reason our games can exist. They are as much of your success as they are ours. From the bottom of our hearts: THANK YOU!

Now let's make a toast to Square One. Let it be a new staple in your gaming group!

We are not planning on resting, though. We will polish the last little details, manufacture the game, and get Square One to your table as fast as possible.

Besides that, there is another project brewing in our lab. Codenamed Project P, and if anything, this one will bring a lot of laughs. Stay tuned!

Shortly, we’ll be in touch with another update containing crucial information for our backers. Don’t miss it!

Take care,

~ Michal, Jan, Marek, Petr, Patrik, Sisi, Natálie & Ferdinand
